Creating Pop! The history of FUNKO Pop!

Creating Pop! The history of FUNKO Pop!

Funko Pops have become hugely popular with adults and kids alike over the last few years. With their pop culture collectibles, Funko now has over 8 different product lines under their name.

The most popular and one of the most collectible product lines, however, remains the Funko Pop! figures, lovingly crafted into all of our favourite pop culture heroes and heroines.

We wanted to take a look back at how this craze first started, so we’re tracing things back to when the first ever Funko Pops took to the shelves as Funko Force, as well as how they became the powerhouse we know and love today.

The First Ever Funko Pop!

Funko was first founded in 1998 by Mike Becker, but was soon sold to current CEO Brian Mariotti in 2005. Since Brian’s takeover, the company has gone from strength to strength and 6 years after the changeover, Funko launched its first ever Funko Pop! figure!

One of the very first Funko Pops ever released was the Batman figure, which is still in circulation today. Since that first figure, Funko Pop! have released thousands of figures and regularly work with huge companies like Marvel and DC to help promote their movies and products.

Creating Collectibles

Although the Funko Pop! figures may look like a simple toy, they are actually highly collectible. Each figure has its own unique number and some are even limited edition, making them even more valuable.

Funko creates figures from a variety of different fandoms, meaning no matter what TV show, film or game you love most, you’ll be able to find your favourite characters immortalised as bobblehead figurines.

Make sure to keep your Pop! figures in their boxes though, as keeping your figures protected is the key to keeping their value and keeping your collection safe.

The rarest and most collectible Funko Pop! figures

There are some figures that are coveted by all Funko Pop! collectors. If you can get your hands on a limited edition figure, you could end up selling it for thousands.

The limited edition San Diego Comic Con figures are some of the rarest, due to them only being available at the convention. For example, the 2011 Loki figure from the box office hit Avengers film regularly sells for nearly £1000 at online auctions.

Here are a few of the rarest and most valuable Pop! figures:

SDCC Gold Loki - no.6
NYCC Flashpoint Batman - no.1
SDCC Metallic Blue Batman - no.144
DC Universe Batgirl Black Suit - no.148
SDCC Holographic Darth Maul - no.23
SDCC Exclusive Star Wars Shadow Trooper - no.14
